A message from the New Chief Operating Officer

As you may know, earlier this year, Carole Cooney moved on from the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) to fulfil a career ambition she has had since she was a young graduate. Carole remains involved having stepped onto the board as an independent director.

Over the summer the board, in partnership with sportscotland, carried out a process of recruitment for a new COO and I am delighted to have joined Waterski and Wakeboard Scotland on the 9th of August.

I – Calum Reid – join Waterski and Wakeboard Scotland having spent just over seven years with Triathlon Scotland where I headed up the development team. During my time there, I played a key role in the development of the organisation’s current strategic plan and was responsible for providing strategic direction and operational management across several areas including clubs, youth and schools, participation growth and safeguarding. My background in sport is mainly in sailing where I have been involved as a participant, coach and volunteer throughout my life.

I am now one month into the role and have in the main spent my time developing my understanding of the sport and its structures. I have been fortunate to have met and spoken with members of the community from around the country including being warmly welcomed by Aberdeen Waterski and Wakeboard Club during my first week. I have also made the most of the warm late summer weather and have embarked on the journey of learning to waterski and wakeboard.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first few weeks in the sport. I look forward to visiting more sites over the remaining weeks of the season and witnessing my first event at the backyard competition at Kyle Waterski and Wakeboard later this month.

My role – funded by sportscotland –  is to work with the volunteer board of directors in providing effective governance and leading the growth of Waterskiing and Wakeboarding in Scotland.

My position is full time and I will be primarily based at the offices in Townhill Dunfermline. I would be delighted to speak to anyone in the Scottish waterski and wakeboard community and can be contacted on my mobile (07432 110 894) as well as by email: calum@waterskiandwakeboardscotland.co.uk

If in the meantime if you have any questions at all then please do feel free to contact Calum, or any of the Waterski and Wakeboard Scotland board members.
